CHILDRENS FARM AND PARTY VENUE, EDUCATIONAL OUTING IN PRETORIA
South Africa is fast becoming an urbanized society and because of this our children in the cities rarely get the opportunity to interact with animals, and in particular farm animals. This need was identified in the classroom by Billy and Erna Cahill, both teachers of profession, and in 1980 they founded the Children's Farm on a smallholding in Centurion, Gauteng.
Mission Statement
As the owners of the Children's Farm, we wish to make a contribution towards the education of children by affording them an opportunity to come into contact with farm animals by allowing them to feed, touch, smell and appreciate these animals that support their very existence. We want to do this in a fun and entertaining way and in doing so help cultivate a love for these animals.
Services
1. School Visits
Since 1980 the Children's Farm has been a unique concept in the edutainment industry, with its primary focus being the introduction of farm animals to pre- and primary school pupils in an educational but entertaining way. The farm prides itself in having a wide variety of livestock on display including cattle, sheep, goats, poultry breeds, as well as pigs, ostriches and bunnies.
Activities on the farm include an informative session in the presentation hall where a thorough overview of farm animals is given. The educational content of this session depends on the age of the audience. This session is followed by a milking demonstration followed by a guided tour during which the information presented in the hall is once more revised by pointing out shape, mouths/bills, feet, coverings ect.
From time to time demonstrations in the making of products such as cheese and yogurt are also available.
Operating hours are normally during the week from 09:00 to 12:00. Special arrangements can be made for groups from 10:30 to 14:00.
Facilities on the farm include two play parks a tuck-shop, braai facilities and free tee and coffee is served to teachers.
2. Kids Birthday Parties
